PA12 vs ABS: choosing a nylon for functional prototypes

PA12 (SLS nylon) is isotropic, tough and great for snap-fits and living hinges. ABS (FDM) is cheaper and easy to vapour-smooth, but anisotropic along layer lines. For functional, load-bearing prototypes, PA12 usually wins; for quick form studies, ABS is hard to beat on cost.
